Fighting crime and noise pollution
When Sharon ran for office in 2018 she pledged to address crime and excessive noise in the community. She walks with several citizen patrols and encourages residents to join. As a legislator she introduced and supported multiple measures to make our neighborhoods safe and peaceful.
What she's done:

More than three violent misdemeanors in five years is now elevated to a felony (SB2347, Act 213, 2024).

In high density areas, prohibits driving motor vehicles having noisy mufflers, authorizes police officers to conduct examinations and inspections of motor vehicle mufflers, and establishes fines for mopeds having noisy exhaust pipes (SB2350, Act 171, 2024).

Theft in a condo’s common exterior area (e.g. parking garage) constitutes burglary (SB2532, Act 240, 2024).

Creating noise detecting camera pilot program to cite noisy vehicles (SB588, Act 63, 2023).

Prohibited open-til-4am cabaret liquor establishments in Waikiki mauka of Kuhio (SB2382, Act 89, 2022).

Increased maximum fines for liquor control law violations to $5,000 (SB2125, Act 45, 2022).

As co-convener of the Kupuna Caucus, oversaw the passage of HB490, Act 147, 2021 enhancing penalties for crimes against seniors.

Increased penalties for abandoning vessels in harbors, a problem at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor (SB791, Act 218, 2021).

Enhanced penalties to felony for unlicensed sale of liquor (SB638, Act 15, 2019).

After pledging in 2018 to enhance the state's database drug-monitoring program, introduced SB1486, Act 230, 2019 which allowed for greater information sharing to curb illegal prescription drug trafficking.
What she's doing:

Citizen Patrols - Supporting our district police.

Excessive Noise - Collaborating with DOT to locate noise detecting cameras on streets in our district (Act 63).

Joining with law enforcement to make sure habitual violent crime law works (Act 213).
